Unknown

Unknown

The film unknown is about a man who goes to a science convention with his wife in Germany, when they arrive at the hotel he realises he forgot one of the bags at the airport. He gets a taxi back to the airport, as they make there way the taxi crashes and they crash into a river which then he is in hospital for 4 days. Then afterwards he finds out by the doctor that they couldn't find any identification of him, then the doctor tries to convince him that he has lost his memory and might be going crazy. He goes back to the hotel to see his wife and she acts like she has never seen him in her life and there is a different guy with her pretending to be him so at this point he knows his identification has been taken. As he tries to solve the mystery he has to go all the way back to the start where he was in a car accident and he found the women driver and bribed her to tel him to truth which he slowly finds out that his identity has been stolen.

This will appeal to an audience because there interest is always gonna be stuck into the film because they want to know what happens after every scene because all of the scene are intense and important to be able to understand the film and whats going on fully so they must watch the thing.

The scene in the flat was intense and maximum action it was edited at a fast pace getting every angle of the fights and the gun shots.

This film has most of the typical stuff a thriller has, most thrillers have a mystery or a problem to solve but also some have stories. This type of thriller is called a physiological thriller which these are mainly fiction stories which knows the psychology of the character and their unstable emotions.

We can see in the trailer that there is intensity and there is a mystery or a problem that needs to be solved and the music matches the intensity of the scenes.

Budget- $30m
Box Office- $136,123,083

Camera Angles - They have all the camera angles like pan shot, steady cam, POV , reverse shot, long shot, medium shot, close shot, extreme close shot and in the crash scene we can see that he gets a close up just before the car hits the water it goes slow motion so you can see his reaction and facial expression just before the crash.

Editing   They use fast editing to show the action and make the scenes fast and detailed. They also have eye line match, action match, and many more including dissolve and montage. In the car crash scene you can see that they make it slow motion as the fall into the water to be able to see the reaction on his face and the surroundings.

Sound-  There is digetic sound most of the action and intense scenes of the film. In the car crash scene just before it you can hear the intense music building up just before they crash and violins start playing to show something action happening.

Brick

Brick (2005) Poster< />

Camera
The scene we see here is set in a tunnel, we can see two characters one which is a women and looks dead and a man looking at her in a guilty way and he just stares at her.
The camera focuses on a close up on the boys face when he gets closer to the body to show his emotions in a bit more detail. The girl which was found dead in the tunnel was the girlfriend of the boy that found her there.

Sound:   The sound that we can here is music which is set to the mood of the scene which is sad type of music and that is non-diegetic. The diegtic sound in this scene is when the guy is stepping in the puddle and walking towards the body you can hear his footsteps, also you can heal the water flowing.

Editing:  We can see that the scene just starts with medium shot at the fence, then it goes to the tunnel when the man is not there and it just the body and then the man walks into the scene and the music used matches the scene and its times correctly.

Mise en scene:
The mise en scene is the tunnel and the girl is wearing white which shows she is innocent and pure. The tunnel looks like a damp and sad settings for a death which seem normal because the girl was a drug addict and most drug deals happen low key areas like tunnels and alley ways.

Colour

Colour

The first film we watched was 'voyage a Travers l'impossible by the pioneer Georges miles in 1904, to get the colours in they had to hand paint frame buy frame. The next improvement of colour in film was the two-strip technicolor and the only colours in that was red and green, an example of this was in a film called The mystery of the max museum (1933).

The First full three strip technicolor was used in a film called Becky Sharp (1935)

As we can see in this trailer a lot of use of the colours red and green are involved.

The main colours that were used in the 1930s and 1940s were black and white, the high budget films could only afford some colours.

Denotation and connotation

Denotation- The literal description of an idea, concept or object.

Connotation - What we associate with a particular idea, concept or object.

Mise en scene  This is the word used to describe the different aspects of film and also analysing the colour in depth and also the clothing and many other equipment used in the film. When mise en scene is applied to cinema it refers to the props, composition, and actors.

Preliminary exercise

In this task we were suppose to get 4 types of shots and we made it into a conversation between two people, the 4 techniques we used were match on action, eye line match, shot reverse shot, and 180 degree.

The eye line match was when we zoomed into the 0 and then zoomed out of his eye which this eye and the 0 above the door matched his eye.
The match on action was when the boy entered through the door we cut the scene in the right part.
The shot, reverse shot was also when the boy was looking at the girl sitting down.
We keep the 180 a degree rule and made sure we filmed from one side so we didn't break the 180 degree rule.

We used mainly all of the techniques correctly but we could of made the graphic match a bit better than we had. We done the eye line match scene but with some editing techniques we got to fix it and make it how we wanted it.

The positive aspects of our film was the match on action i think we edited it really well and  also and other positive element in our film was that we edited the conversation good.

The areas we need improvement in our film is that we need to have better and more dynamic acting also being able to do a better eye line match and also be able to edit without error.
